RhinoCo Family! Please join us this Saturday as we team up with all of our fellow RhinoCo boxes in the Northeast and Southeast in support of one of our own. Mallory Barber, part of our Reebok CrossFit 5th Ave family, is running a half marathon to raise awareness and funds for LLS, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, that will lead to research, better treatment, and a cure. She is doing this as a tribute to her father, who was diagnosed last January. Saturday’s WOD was designed with some of Mallory’s favorite CrossFit movements in mind.

Or bring a donation to the box when you wod. Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.
Growing up, my father always put me first. He worked 7 days a week, put me in the best school systems we could find, supported me when developing my career, and continues to support me as my dreams become reality. I have always looked forward to the day, where I was finally able take care of him, and show him how much I truly appreciate what he’s done for me. Unfortunately, that day came sooner than expected.
In January of 2014 my Father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, a rare type of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. I decided I needed to do something, to make sure he and future patients, are able to receive the best treatments possible. I’ve since taken one of my biggest weaknesses, running, and signed up for my first half marathon, 2015 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon! I’m now running in my Father’s honor, and raising money and awareness for Leukemia & Lymphoma.
When researching half marathons and organizations to help me train, I remembered hearing amazing things about a group called “Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training” (LLSTNT). I did more research on LLSTNT, and now I’m fundraising my way to my first half! The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patience services. Today, over one million American’s suffer from some form of blood cancer. Because of LLS’ efforts, cure rates for blood cancers have been steadily rising.
As a TNT participant running on behalf of LLS and its mission to cure blood cancer, I am actively raising funds to support research, which in turn will lead to improved treatment options for patients, and
ultimately, a cure. I take my commitment seriously, and am grateful you’ve take the time to learn more about my story.
